Face and Scalp
Gallery: Face and Scalp Example

Summary
This case features skin cancer covering parts of the face and scalp. In this case, a custom-fit silicone bolus is required for comfort and coverage.
An upgrade from uniform-thickness to variable-thickness OptiBol improves the quality of the bolus as well as the efficiency of bolus design and planning. The automated, target-based creation algorithm ensures the buildup is added where necessary, but not beyond.

- The design screen in the p.d software shows the designed OptiBol with sagittal and coronal alignment guides.
- The manufactured bolus as designed in p.d, shown on a 3D-printed holder. This bolus featured 10 mm buildup to the skin cancer target, but a larger buildup (or smaller) could have been selected, and the bolus design time and manufacturing costs would be the same.
- The manufactured bolus shown without the 3D-printed holder, illustrating its flexibility.
- The entire bolus design (including data import and export) took less than 2 minutes, as shown in this real-time video with timing.
